The Third Line

Sleepless Nights
by Golnaz Fathi
29 May - 22 June, 2008

Firmly anchored through
extensive training in traditional
calligraphy, Fathi has for over
15 years been perfecting the ability of script to communicate meaning away from its actual worth.

In Sleepless Nights, Golnaz Fathi delves into the flexibility of Persian calligraphic script, and its varied applications, with a thick brush, fine pen or bright white lines of light. As
the words are vacated from their meaning, their forms take to the forefront and are charged with emotive potential.

He is one the first UAE artists who was brave enough to venture the contemporary art and has continuously surprised his audience with new works and established himself as a leading artist comparable to international ones of the same caliber. His recent paintings continue in the theme of Mohera, his perennial muse and lifelong obsession.

His paintings are in a wonderful sense of movement, full of energy and emotion representing the love and pain of the woman which never has a face to give imagination and be magical for everyone. Salim is playing with shade and light, free from any visual limits, he manages darkness and light to be in cognitive harmony.

16th – 31st July - Bert's Cafe The Greens (043619292)

About the Artist

Arthi Srinivasan was born in Mumbai,
India and grew up in the UAE. She
is a self-taught artist who was
influenced through private lessons
with some locally well-known artists
residing in Dubai. Further back-
ground in art was acquired through
learning and reading the works of
world renowned artists such as
Modigliani, Picasso, Monet, etc. as
well as the works of some well-
known photographers such as Steve
McCurry.

Arthi is currently exploring
portraits as one of her key
strengths but has
also dabbled in landscapes.
Abstract expressionism is an
area of art that interests her as
well. Most of the portraits done
so far have been pictures of
thoseindividuals that have
inspired her but also have
spoken endlessly about
themselves just through
their photographs.
